Beauty is of a Bygone Age

I just had to post this one. A pair of twins look in the history books for hair-inspiration, as the narrator tells us that "Beauty is of a bygone age." Sound familiar? From 1949.

Shampooing - "I'm going to wash that dirt right outta my hair."

Another shampooing article. "Contrary to some old ideas, daily shampooing is not injurious to the hair any more than daily washing is injurious to the skin." (Of course, this publication is put out by the makers of Drene. Wash rinse and repeat.)

How to Shampoo

Excerpt:
"Hair should be shampooed as often as it becomes dirty--which, in turn, depends upon your own activities and environment. A shampoo may be required weekly, and sometimes even twice a week."

The Story of Cosmetics

This video is interesting, but here's the line that makes it relevant: "They're just caught up in a 1950's mindset of better living through chemistry."

From Wikipedia:
The phrase "Better Living Through Chemistry" is a variant of a DuPont advertising slogan, "Better Things for Better Living...Through Chemistry." DuPont adopted it in 1935 and was their slogan until 1982 when the "Through Chemistry" part was dropped.

And, while you're subject to my ramblings, here's a flickr group on 1950s Beauty Products I came across looking while looking at vintage DuPont ads.
